From now on in Poltava will operate an innovative rehabilitation center for the military. This is the 12th center of the all-Ukrainian network, and 2000 servicemen will be able to receive free and evidence-based rehabilitation services here every year.
The new rehabilitation center will be built on three floors of one of the main medical institutions in the Poltava region. The entire space is equipped according to international standards of inclusiveness and technology. The treatment and rehabilitation area has 2 physical rehabilitation rooms with Virtual Reality (VR) devices that provide feedback to the patient. There are also rooms for occupational therapy, psychologist, assistive technology, massage, magnetic and physiotherapy, laser therapy, physiotherapist, resident room, inclusive sanitary rooms and office space.
The Center's innovative rehabilitation equipment covers the entire spectrum of patients' functional impairments, including those resulting from mine injuries. In particular, they allow for the high-tech restoration of lost upper and lower limb functions, including walking.
"Everyone wants to participate in this war in one way or another. Not everyone can be on the front lines, but everyone wants to be involved in the fight. Initially, the idea was to build only two floors of the center in Poltava, but after getting to know the team and studying the needs of the region, we decided to go as far as possible. Our goal is to open rehabilitation centers closer to home, to the families of the wounded, because the family is one of the most important components of recovery," said the project founder.
The ward can accommodate 51 patients at a time. All rooms are equipped with functional furniture, electric beds and inclusive sanitary facilities. The premises of the Poltava center are barrier-free for patients: wide doorways, no thresholds, non-slip floors, handrails in the corridors, inclusive toilets with enough space for wheelchair users. Currently, the Poltava center is the only one in the network that is equipped on three floors.
The multidisciplinary teams of the Poltava center include specialists in physical rehabilitation medicine, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, masseurs, assistants, speech therapists and psychologists. An individualized rehabilitation plan is developed for each wounded soldier, and innovative equipment ensures that patients receive high-quality, evidence-based rehabilitation care at the highest level.
"Our patients are soldiers who suffered injuries to their limbs, brain, spinal cord, peripheral nervous system, etc. during the fighting.
However, the wounded not only from Poltava region, but from all over Ukraine will recover here. These are real heroes and I am proud that now, thanks to innovative equipment and modern facilities, we will be able to provide them with the highest level of care," said Svitlana Grytsenko, head of the rehabilitation center in Poltava.
In addition to Poltava, innovative RECOVERY centers provide free services in Kyiv, Lviv, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi, Odesa (two facilities) and Dnipro region (three facilities). In total, more than 8,500 defenders of Ukraine have already received rehabilitation assistance in 12 centers of the national network. Most of them have already returned to combat.
The founders of the project plan to expand the network to at least 18 innovative rehabilitation centers, where about 25,000 soldiers can recover annually. As reported by ArmyInform, the government has expanded the use of telemedicine in rehabilitation.
