As of today, there is a significant need for rehabilitation specialists in Ukraine.

We are meeting with Dr. Yevhen Strashko, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at Poltava State Medical University (Ministry of Health of Ukraine), and a practicing physician specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine. He conducts practical training for the resident doctors of the department, which is chaired by Acting Head of the Department, Associate Professor Viktoria Ivanivna Donchenko.

- Good afternoon, Dr. Yevhen. The department collaborates with the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of Poltava Regional Clinical Hospital, since practical training requires a solid foundation of resources. Could you tell us a bit about your training program, as your graduates are currently in high demand?

- Good afternoon. This year, Poltava State Medical University is offering its first course for interns specializing in physical and rehabilitation medicine. We are now in the second year of specialized training for practicing physicians in the field of physical and rehabilitation medicine. They are taking part in both theoretical and practical training, which is supported by the modern facilities at the Poltava Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Medicine Center. Here, they gain hands-on experience working with patients, observe how specialists operate, and learn from their expertise while developing their own practical skills.

Currently, physicians from various hospitals across the Poltava region are taking specialization courses. These hospitals are forming rehabilitation teams, building and staffing these teams according to the requirements of the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU). Our department assists by training these specialists.

During their studies, both interns and physicians use lecture materials from an international partnership project between the Altmühlseeklinik Hensoltshöhe (Germany) and the Poltava Regional Clinical Hospital named after M.V. Sklifosovsky.

Looking ahead, the demand for rehabilitation teams will continue to grow, and we plan to keep offering this training.

- I’d like to thank the amazing staff at the Rehabilitation Medicine Center for their care and dedication to patients, as well as their support in the training process. I wish them continued success in their work, for the benefit of the Ukrainian people!

I would also like to thank the department staff for educating the next generation of specialists and the Rehabilitation Medicine Center team for their hard work. I wish you new achievements and successes! And to all the patients at the Rehabilitation Medicine Center, I wish you a speedy recovery!

The “Hospital Partnership – Partners for Health” project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as part of the grant program “Supporting Partnerships in Healthcare.”
