The team of the Rehabilitation Medicine Center of the Poltava Regional Clinical Hospital named after M.V. Sklifosovsky has been working for one and a half years.
Taras Kabluka, a physiotherapist's assistant, helps a patient with exercises. Chapak Volodymyr Ivanovych, undergoing rehabilitation at the center after an ischemic stroke.
Good morning! Mr. Chapak, could you please tell us how long it takes to recover from an illness?
Good morning! Currently, there are many people in our center after a stroke. The complexity of the lesion varies. Some have problems with paresis of the whole side, others with the arm or leg, and often have speech disorders. In order to rehabilitate the patient, an individual rehabilitation plan is created, goals and objectives are set. The patient should understand that the goals are different depending on the complexity of the disease. For one patient, it is possible to regain mobility in the limbs and the ability to take care of oneself, for another - to get out of the wheelchair and move with crutches or walkers, for another - to relearn how to speak, pick up a spoon, put on shoes by oneself, and so on. Some people manage to regain basic function during the first course of rehabilitation, while others need to go through several cycles. My job is to help the patient perform physical exercises to reduce contractures and improve mobility. I help the patient with basic limb movements so that the patient's brain remembers all the movements and strengthens the synaptic connections between neurons. We see new results every day, we see which exercises need to be strengthened, which muscles need more work. The patients help us a lot because they are all determined to get better or recover as soon as possible
During our conversation, Mr. Taras, skillfully assisting the patient, continues the set of exercises with Volodymyr Ivanovych.
Despite the fact that many patients find it difficult to speak due to their illness, and sometimes their health problems upset them, they persistently continue their training and are sincerely grateful to their saviors - the Center's staff.
- On behalf of all patients I thank the staff of the Center for effective work, for restored health of Ukrainians and wish them new successes and achievements! And I wish all patients of the center a speedy recovery!
